Established on August 19, 2020, Institute of New Functional Materials (INFM) is one of the first self-built research institutes of the GIIT. INFM integrates technological innovation, industrialization, enterprise incubation, talent cultivation, and sci-tech services.
With a mission of "Aggregating innovation resources to empower industrial development", INFM takes innovation and talent as its core value. And it is dedicated to addressing Guangxi's strategic needs by leveraging local resource advantages to overcome technical bottlenecks in functional materials, promoting industry-academia-research collaboration, and driving high-quality economic growth.
Research Areas
Targeting traditional industries (aluminum, steel, non-ferrous metals) and emerging sectors (new energy, advanced materials) within Guangxi's modern industrial system, INFM’s research mainly covers four areas: Inorganic Non-Metallic Materials, Metal Functional Materials, Functional Polymer Materials, Rare Earth Functional Materials.
Research Team
INFM owns 4 high-level innovation teams led by State Council Special Allowance recipients and Guangxi’s Outstanding Experts, with Ph.D./M.Sc. researchers as core members, and 1 engineering design and pilot-scale research team. Among its talent team, there are 2 National-Level Experts, 1 Provincial/Ministerial-Level Expert, 2 Western-Light Visiting Scholars, 5 Guangxi High-Level Talents (2 Class B, 1 Class D, 2 Class E) and 17 Nanning High-Level Talents. In terms of educational degree or professional title, 80% of researchers hold master's or doctoral degrees, and 65% hold associate senior or higher professional titles.
Innovation Platforms
INFM keeps enhancing its innovation competitiveness through the aggregation of innovative resources, concentration of innovative talent, and R&D and application of innovative technologies, further strengthening regional industrial linkages and collaborative development.
INFM has established a range of research base/lab/center, including 13 Autonomous Region-Level Platforms, i.e., Guangxi Sci-Tech Achievement Transformation Pilot Base (3 in total), Guangxi Key Laboratory; Guangxi Regional Technology Innovation Center for Professional Technical Fields (2 in total), Guangxi Engineering Research Center (2 in total), Guangxi Innovation Consortium (2 in total), Guangxi Modern Chemical Industry College, Guangxi New-Type R&D Institution; and 3 City-Level Platforms, i.e., Nanning Innovation Center, Engineering Research Center, and Fangchenggang Engineering Technology Center. Besides, 2 of its companies are certified as a National High-Tech Enterprise.
