Established on August 19, 2020, the GIIT Institute of New Functional Materials (INFM) is one of the earliest institutes affiliated to GIIT, and also a new research institute which integrates key technology research, commercialization of research achievements, enterprise incubation, talent cultivation and technological services, operated as an enterprise. Its main function is to break the technology bottleneck which limits the development of new functional materials in Guangxi, to push forward the commercialization of relevant advanced research achievements and to support the quality development of local economy by recognizing the main demand of Guangxi, relying on the innovative system an mechanism, gather quality innovation resources from all over the world as well as introducing and developing key and generic technologies.
INFM conducts technological research and achievement commercialization on Guangxi’s advantageous resources including inorganic non-metallic materials, high-performance nonferrous alloy materials, functional polymer materials and rare earth functional materials. By now, we have collaboratively developed advanced key technologies such as “continuous vacuum alloy melting” and “submerged impinging steam reaction”. In addition, we’re developed competitive products with independent intellectual property rights including high-strength and high-conductivity silver copper alloy, submicron highly active phosphate, indium compounds and so on, filling the blanks of industry with multiple technologies.
INFM puts great emphasis on team-building and has formed a team led by experts with titles like “Cheung Kong Scholars” and “Distinguished Young Scientists” and with young and middle-aged doctors and masters as great assets. Over 30% of team members are doctors and over 55% of members have vice-senior professional title or above.
INFM puts great effort into building a innovative ecology system with a cycle of “technology originality-project development-industrial commercialization”, following the technological innovation needs, integrating industry-university-research and practical experience and connecting up-steam with down-stream industry chains. So far, the first professional sharing pilot test base has been established; with an area of 4000 square meters, a first-stage-investment of over 20 million yuan, the base provides a well-equipped venue with laboratories, analysis and examination center and pilot test plant, as well as a quality service team, which can provide service throughout the whole process of R&D, pilot test, quality inspection and marketing.
INFM has derived or incubated 5 spin-offs or subsidiaries including: Guangxi Zhongke Petrochemical Research Institute Co., Ltd., Guangxi Zhongke Petrochemical Detection and Research Institute Co., Ltd., Guangxi Xinya Composite Material Co., Ltd., Guangxi Zero to Zero Technology Co., Ltd. and Guangxi Kekaichenglin Technology Co., Ltd., covering production, sales and technology consultant services regarding alloys of silver-copper, tin-copper, silver-tin-copper, nickel-copper and magnesium-copper, anti-corrosive phosphate materials, indium compounds, standard reference materials and experiment devices.
INFM will keep on being the drive of innovation, upgrading core competitiveness of the whole industry, fulfil the goal of becoming a new institute with “first-rate team, first-rate achievements and first-rate innovative platform”, and striving to become the innovative drive and technological center of new functional material industry in Guangxi.
